Hopkins: I'm really enjoying BSB

John Hopkins: I'm a firm believer in one step at a time. I'm loving BSB, so for me this is where I want to be for the rest of this season.
John Hopkins has declared his 'love' for the British Superbike Championship, saying he feels as though his career is getting back on track after 'some tough years'.

The American has adapted well to the rigours of the domestic Superbike series, winning in only his second BSB outing at Oulton Park and proving a consistent front runner elsewhere on the Samsung Crescent Suzuki.

Currently second in the standings, Hopkins says he is impressed with the professionalism and interest in BSB, claiming the series is rejuvenating his interest in racing once more and going as far to say it could forge a path back to MotoGP.

"I have to say I'm really enjoying this championship,” said Hopkins, who finished fourth overall at MotoGP level in 2008. “The tracks have been so varied, so challenging – that alone has been a great experience. But the level of interest: the number of fans, the media focus, has really impressed me. It feels like I'm in a good place.

“After some tough years, the hard work of the last 18 months are paying off; Paul Denning's faith in me is paying off for the team; and all this is stimulating interest in my career going forwards, maybe even making way for a return to MotoGP.

“I'm a firm believer in one step at a time. I'm loving BSB, so for me this is where I want to be for the rest of this season, I'm committed to this great team and this great championship."

Looking ahead to the next round at Knockhill, Hopkins recently completed a test session there to help him become better acquainted with the quirky Scottish circuit.

"What a circuit! For a lap that's under 50-seconds it really packs everything in: fast corners, tight corners, hard braking, ups and downs! I really like it. Better still, my Samsung Crescent bike also likes it, we tried two quite different settings during our testing and it lapped well on both.

"That's mission one accomplished. Now for the race weekend. For me it's going to be about consolidating my position and I guess the best way to do that will be by notching up more podium credits. And on the lap times we did during our test we think that should be possible.”

John really has been superb so far this year. I was so disappointed to see the way his GP career came to a close and the ill fate that struck his attempt at WSBK with Stiggy motorsports. Looks like he is getting back on track though. 2011 BSB Champion, then hopefully Suzuki will stump up for a second factory GP bike next year with the number 21 on the front!
