Having scored just ten points from the last two rounds, Michael Rutter finds himself twelfth in the BSB points standings, with three rounds to go before the cut-off for the top six Title Fighters.
Rutter is currently 19 points from the final Shootout place, held by TAS Suzuki's Josh Brookes. It's a doable challenge, but only if Rutter can start scoring solid points in both races.
The Rapid Solicitors-Bathams Ducati rider scored double points in the first two rounds of the year, but the following four events have seen him score only once.
Rutter hopes that the return to Oulton Park this weekend can revive his season.
"Oulton Park is a better circuit for the Ducati and I think we should be back where we need to be this weekend," he said.
"For me it is like a second home round and despite being on the podium at Thruxton we have had a few disappointing rounds and we need to turn that around this weekend.
"The team will be doing everything possible to be back on the podium and we just need a change in fortune to try and get inside the top six before the Showdown."
Team-mate Martin Jessopp is three places and 31 points behind Rutter in the championship.
Jessopp is looking to build on momentum from the previous round at Snetterton, when he took his best finish of the season with a sixth place.
"I think Oulton Park will be a better round for us than Snetterton and we have a set-up now that we can carry across to this weekend as a starting point. I think we need to get our heads around qualifying as the past few rounds I have been giving myself a lot of work to do in the race as I have started so far down the grid," he said.
"It is good going back to a circuit we have already raced on this year and everyone is moving forward so we know we need to work hard again this weekend. We have a few new things in regards to the settings that we want to try and hopefully that will put us closer again."
