Brookes edges away from pack with podium

Josh Brookes gives himself a good chance of going through to the British Superbike title showdown by finishing second at Oulton Park.
Josh Brookes has established a comfortable margin over the chasing pack in the fight for a top six title showdown spot after notching up a second consecutive podium at Oulton Park.

Having finished second at Snetterton to haul himself from 11th to sixth position overall, Brookes repeated the result in the wet at Oulton Park to give his hopes of making the title showdown for the second consecutive year a significant boost.

Indeed, though the Australian retains sixth overall, he is now 20 points clear of seventh place man Jon Kirkham with four races remaining.

Looking back at the race itself, the Relentless Suzuki rider was pleased with the result after deciding not to gamble in the tricky weather conditions.

“It was not nice out there, but we're obviously happy with another strong podium. From my grid position I had to take a few risks to get up to where I was when the safety car came out, but I wasn't prepared to gamble again as I'd already had too many moments.

“I saw Shakey having problems and Hopper obviously went down so I just backed it off and brought the big GSX-R1000 home. The second race being cancelled could play into our favour as I like Cadwell, but you can't count your chickens.”
