Mason eyeing title showdown spot

Gary Mason feels he is capable to cracking the overall top six as the British Superbike Championship reaches a critical stage.
Mason setting sights on top six berth

Gary Mason is confident he can qualify for the 2011 British Superbike title showdown if he scores a brace of strong results at Brands Hatch this weekend.

The MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider, who celebrated his maiden BSB podium earlier this year at Croft, lifted himself to eighth in the standings with a run to fifth last time out at Oulton Park.

Placing him 21 points adrift of Josh Brookes, who currently occupies the all-important sixth place in the standings, Mason is hoping three decent finishes at Brands Hatch will set him up nicely for the forthcoming Cadwell Park round.

“This is a massive round for me obviously and the focus is getting some good results and staying upright. If I can get three good outings, ideally I can get into that top six or thereabouts so we're all set for Cadwell Park. I absolutely love the place, I won in European Superstock there for this very team, I like the flowing tracks and it suits the bike.”

Team-mate Alex Lowes, meanwhile, is back on the ZX-10R following his stint racing the Castrol Honda on the World Superbike stage, the Briton looking to rediscover some form at Brands Hatch.

“The World Superbikes have been an amazing experience but I need to get back up the sharp end in BSB, this is so important to me. I'm really looking forward to Brands and I feel fine after Silverstone, most people thought I'd really hurt myself but I'm okay!”
