Hopkins confirms title showdown spot

Three good points' finishes sees John Hopkins book his place in the 2011 British Superbike Championship title showdown.
John Hopkins will challenge for the British Superbike Championship title in his first season aboard the Samsung Crescent Suzuki after booking his place in the upcoming 'showdown'.

Though Hopkins didn't win any of the three races at Brands Hatch after settling for second, third and fourth place finishes, the American's consistency actually saw him come away with a greater points' haul than any other rider.

Indeed, Hopkins was pleased with the results, even if he was disappointed he couldn't get on terms with Tommy Hill in the fast-paced final race of the weekend.

"It all went well,” he said. “We had a little issue with shifting gear in that second race and so I couldn't ride as hard as I'd like to have, but I was very happy to pick up that last podium credit. In the third race the bike was perfect and everything was great but Tommy Hill rode really well, I couldn't have ridden any harder, it hurts to be beaten but we did what was needed.

"Importantly, I'm now secure in the top six for the Showdown and that's exciting, something I can really look forward to. Going to Cadwell Park I don't need to worry about championship points, and will instead ride for the podium credits – they're most important now.

“Once again the team proved just how good they were this weekend, sorting the shifter issues between races, the bike was perfect for that last race. We're looking set for a great time at Cadwell Park."

Hopkins, who competed with the Samsung Crescent Suzuki team on the World Superbike stage at Silverstone just over a week ago, will now head to Brno to take-up his Rizla Suzuki wild-card at the Czech Republic Grand Prix.

What a weird system. I guess they're trying to make it more interesting but if you lose to a guy that was 100 pts lower than you wouldn't you be angry after putting all the work to win races and consistently get points in each round?
