HM Plant Honda duo Shane Byrne and Ryuichi Kiyonari have completed a private test at Cadwell Park as they look to get the edge on their MCE British Superbike rivals before the series visits there over the bank holiday weekend.

Both riders were present at the test, with the local team working on set-up of the Honda CBR1000RR prior to the crucial event in just over a week's time.

Indeed, though Byrne can rest relatively easy safe in the knowledge that he has qualified for the title shootout, reigning champion Kiyonari is under pressure from Michael Rutter and Gary Mason, who are just a handful of points behind him in the battle for sixth.

Nonetheless, Byrne was pleased with the progress made, insisting the intention was not to set any records, merely getting tuned into the circuit.

"It was great being back at Cadwell Park and getting some laps in before next weekend," he told the BSB website. "We have been working on some options that we could change ahead of the event, so it has been a forward planning evening and doing some ground work should we make those changes.

"All in all it has been good and we have had no dramas; we haven't been out to set any records but we are happy with where we are at after that session."
