A showcase for spectacular action and thrilling competition, the 2011 MCE British Superbike Championship is already shaping up to be a classic – and that's even before you take into account the imminent 'title showdown', which kicks off at Donington Park on September 9-11.

The popular Leicestershire circuit returns to the BSB schedule in 2011 and takes pride of place as one of three venues that will host the nail-biting conclusion to the season, where six riders will compete for the title on an almost equal footing over the last seven races.

Guaranteed to keep things exciting right up to the final race of the season, Donington Park will be a crucial round for the lucky six as they bid to get their renewed quests to lift the 2011 trophy off to a good start.

Having seen a three-way scrap for the crown in 2010, all six riders are arguably capable of fighting it out this year, with BSB returnee Shane Byrne, Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill and impressive rookie John Hopkins currently leading the way having notched up 14 wins from the 19 races.

Byrne has been mighty on his return to the series aboard the HM Plant Honda, though he has been pushed all the way by new fan-favourite Hopkins, who has shrugged off his inexperience around some UK circuits to be a consistent front runner – the fact he raced at Donington Park in MotoGP will no doubt make him a feared contender aboard the Samsung Crescent Suzuki.

Along with Hill, Michael Laverty on the second Swan Yamaha, HM Plant Honda's Ryuichi Kiyonari and Relentless by TAS Suzuki rider Josh Brookes all find themselves in the showdown for the second season in succession. Could their experience prove a crucial advantage for them this year?

While much of the attention will be focused on the 'big six', superb action is guaranteed down the field, with the likes of MSS Colchester Kawasaki, Rapid Bathams Ducati, Motorpoint Yamaha and Buildbase BMW hoping to get amongst the title contenders.

Together with a substantial support package, which includes the exciting Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship and the National Superstock 1000 Series, the Donington Park round of the 2011 British Superbike Championship is destined to be memorable for both riders and fans...
