'No fault' declared in Byrne, Laverty collision

Shane Byrne and Michael Laverty are satisfied that there was no-one to blame for their costly collision in race two at Donington Park.
Shane Byrne and Michael Laverty insist nobody was at fault in their collision at the start of the second British Superbike race at Donington Park, though both have been left to rue the loss of crucial points in their title challenge.

With Laverty and Byrne finishing second and fourth in race one respectively, both were looking to go better in the second encounter, but saw their chances dashed when they dived for the same line into Redgate and made contact.

Though both got going again, with Byrne making an excellent fight back to eighth, the HM Plant Honda rider was disappointed to be pushed onto the back foot in the fight for the title, even if he is satisfied that it was a mere racing incident.

"The crash in the second race was nobody's fault,” he said. “I got a good start and was alongside John Hopkins. I waited till he braked and I was thinking this is going to be touch and go. Next thing I hear is a crashing noise on the inside. I don't hold anything against Michael Laverty as no-one takes unnecessary risks. There is no malice. We all want to win the championship."

Laverty, who finished 14th after taking longer to extricate the Swan Yamaha from the gravel, was also frustrated to miss out on important points.

“I was feeling confident for the second race and I wanted to get to the front as soon as possible. Shakey had done the same move in race one and we went for the apex but he hadn't seen me. It is frustrating but it was a racing incident.

“It will be an uphill task now but we knew we had the pace which makes it even more disappointing. The pressure is slightly off me now as I can just try for wins rather than being too conservative but anything can still happen and I will fight until the bitter end for the title."

I wonder what kind of reaction would be displayed if this hapened in MotoGP with Lorenzo, Pedrosa or Stoner. These guys were fighting for the title. HUGE fairplay evidenced by these pirates. RESPECT to those who earned it.
