Byrne looking to claw back ground at Silverstone

Shane Byrne heads to Silverstone keen to make up ground on John Hopkins and Tommy Hill in the fight for the 2011 British Superbike Championship title.
Shane Byrne will look to give his MCE British Superbike Championship title hopes a boost at Silverstone having lost crucial ground during the first 'Showdown' round at Donington Park.

Fourth and eighth place finishes at Donington Park – the latter result coming after recovering from a first corner crash – have seen Byrne slip 25 points behind current leader John Hopkins with only five races remaining.

Nonetheless, Byrne is in high spirits heading to Silverstone, saying his HM Plant Honda team have been working hard to find solutions to give him the edge over his Yamaha and Suzuki rivals.

“I am looking forward to Silverstone and getting back out on the HM Plant Honda Fireblade. Basically, this weekend we are taking everything we have learnt so far this season and condensing it so that we can start in a stronger position.

“The team have been working hard since Donington Park to see what else we can try, but we have a few changes to refine in practice and then we will be focused on the races and doing everything we can to put the HM Plant Honda Fireblade back on the podium again.”

Be interesting to see what the attendance is like at Siverstone, it was dire at Donington, I've never got out of the place so easy! The Silverstone WSB attendance was pretty limp, its not that popular as a spectator venue and its so big a small crowd will be lost in it...........yep, the 'showdown' has really boosted interest in the series....not! Shakey is still leading from Hill & Hopper under the true scoring system, be interesting to see how it all pans out in the end......
