Laverty: We have an outside chance

"We have an outside chance of the title now, but at the same time you never know what can still happen; we have seen that before!" - Michael Laverty.
If Michael Laverty was told earlier in the season that he would be equal on points with double champion Shane Byrne heading into the BSB season finale, at Brands Hatch, this weekend he would probably have been pleased.

Unfortunately, Laverty and Byrne - who led the standings for much of the 'Main Season' - are in joint fourth place with three Showdown races remaining, 44 points from leader John Hopkins (Suzuki).

As such, while Laverty's title hopes are mathematically alive, the Swan Yamaha rider knows it's out of his own hands and is simply focussing on a strong end to the season.

“The last round at Silverstone was a bit frustrating as we deserved more, but the pressure is off me now because of my position and I can come into Brands Hatch feeling confident of a strong end to the season for the Swan Yamaha team," he said.

"We have an outside chance of the title now, but at the same time you never know what can still happen; we have seen that before!

"We are ready for the battle this weekend and we won't be giving up just yet. We always want the two Swan Yamahas at the front in every race and this weekend that will be what we are aiming for again.

"They are going to be three tough races, but we will be doing everything to win.”
