Josh Brookes, Michael Laverty and Shane Byrne showed they are not dismissing their British Superbike Championship title hopes just yet as they filled out the top three in testing at Brands Hatch.

Though Laverty led for much of the session, it was Brookes, a winner at Brands Hatch earlier this year, who emerged quickest with his final flying lap on the Relentless by TAS Suzuki.

Brookes was trailed by Laverty and Byrne, the trio hoping misfortune strikes title favourites John Hopkins and Tommy Hill this weekend to give their title chances a boost.

Hopkins and Hill, meanwhile, were sixth and fifth fastest respectively, behind impressive EVO rider Graeme Gowland on the WFR Honda.

Chris Walker was a fine seventh best on the privateer Pr1mo Kawasaki, ahead of Glen Richards on the second WFR Honda, outgoing champion Ryuichi Kiyonari and Motorpoint Yamaha's Alex Lowes, the latter going tenth despite crashing.

With the full GP layout of the Kent circuit, which will be used for the races this weekend, unavailable until Saturday, the riders persevered with the shorter Indy layout for Friday's action.
