British Superbike Series and Race Director Stuart Higgs has led tributes from a host of BSB competitors towards Marco Simoncelli following his tragic death in an accident during the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Higgs was officiating at Sepang during the race when the incident occurred, a role he also assumed a week earlier at Phillip Island when Simoncelli recorded his best-ever MotoGP finish of second place.

"The motorcycle racing world has been robbed of one of its brightest stars. Just last weekend I saw him secure his best ever result on a MotoGP bike and on behalf of BSB I offer our condolences to the entire MotoGP community at this very sad time."
