Linfoot, Burrell form Hawk BMW line-up

Hawk BMW signs Dan Linfoot and promotes Barry Burrell for its assault on the 2012 MCE British Superbike Championship.
Dan Linfoot and Barry Burrell will form Hawk Racing's rider line-up for the MCE British Superbike Championship in 2012, ahead of its second season as a BMW customer team.

Linfoot comes to Hawk BMW, which will retain its distinctive Buildbase backing, for his third season of BSB racing having competed with Motorpoint Yamaha in 2010 and on a Honda in 2011, firstly with Sorrymate.com SMT and latterly with Tyco Racing.

Having also taken in some Moto2 experience with stints in the Spanish series, 23-year-old Linfoot is confident he can make a step forward with Hawk BMW next season.

"It was always my goal to stay in BSB next season; it is where I want to be and the Moto2 experience this year I am sure can only have helped. The new rules for 2012 will make it a more level playing field and that will definitely be great for everyone. I think the experience the team had last season and the rule changes mean we can be aiming for some good results.

“The BMW has performed well in the Superstock class for the past couple of seasons and that shows that it is one of the best bikes on the market at the moment; there is no reason why that shouldn't translate to BSB next year. There are lots of questions marks in terms of who is going to be the ones to beat for next season with the various changes, so we will have to wait for round one at Brands Hatch!

“The team have been working hard on the bikes and I want to be up there from the start. I definitely want to be the next Tommy Hill and win the BSB Championship in the next few years!"

Hawk made the switch from Kawasaki to BMW machinery in 2011, but while it struggled for form with the full Superbike specification S1000RR in the championship class, its additional EVO entry, piloted by Burrell, proved more competitive, while Richard Cooper was a title winner for the team at National Superstock level.

Indeed, with new, EVO-inspired regulations coming into force for 2012, Burrell, who finished third in the 2011 EVO standings, has high hopes that the BMW will prove a more formidable contender next season.

"I am really excited to be back in BSB next season with the Buildbase BMW team again as we made steps forward last year and we can continue to do the same in 2012. It took a while last season to adapt to the BMW but now we have that experience we will start next year in a stronger position, as we ended 2011 with some good results. I have goals to be inside the top ten and I think with more power now we should be able to move up the order and show what we can do as a team."
