BSB pays tribute to Robert Fearnall

Jonathan Palmer leads the tributes for Robert Fearnall, who has passed away aged 57.
The MCE British Superbike Championship community was deeply saddened yesterday (Friday) by the news that Robert Fearnall had passed away.

Robert, through his Two-Four Sports organisation, was the promoter of BSB from 1995 to 1999, but was perhaps best known as the Managing Director as well as other roles at Donington Park circuit for over thirty years.

MotorSport Vision Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer paid tribute to the life and work of Robert Fearnall:

"I was extremely sad to learn of the death of Robert Fearnall," said Palmer. "Robert devoted his life to motorsport, and particularly Donington Park and motor cycling racing in general, about which he was probably the most knowledgeable person in the UK for many years.

"When MSV took over the Brands Hatch group of circuits Robert joined us to head up the motorsport events team and his wisdom was a great asset to our business at a time when running race events and particularly motor cycle racing was very new to me."

"The motor cycle racing world in particular owes a great debt to Robert Fearnall and in many ways. Apart from producing his beloved BikeSport News publication, which gives unique coverage to legions of club motor cycle racers, Robert was also instrumental in setting the British Superbike Championship on the successful path it has since followed.

"Recognising BSB's potential with the right structure, Robert re-launched BSB in 1995 under the control of the newly created MCRCB regulatory body, which had specific responsibility for the unique requirements of BSB and still continues today, with BSB having now become the most successful national motorsport championship in Great Britain.

"Robert made a major contribution to UK motorsport and many of us at MSV will miss him as both a friend and professionally."

Everyone involved in BSB extends their condolences to Robert's family and friends.

I was very saddened to hear of Robert's untimely passing. I knew him well from his Silverstone days but it was through my involvement with Donington both as a sponsor and Chairman of the Donington Racing Club that I really got to know him. In short he was not only the ultimate professional but a great bloke who was always fun to be with. My condolences to his family and of course Kevin Wheatcroft who now has a huge gap to fill

Very sad to hear. My condolences to his family. A lovely bloke even when he was under lots of pressure.
