Tunstall and Smart test new Panigale at Brands

'The Panigale exceeded my expectations; the chassis is really nimble and the engine has a really nice punch to it' - Tom Tunstall
The exotic new Ducati Panigale was on track for the first time today as the Jentin Doodson Motorsport and Moto Rapido teams took part in a test at Brands Hatch in preparation for the opening round of the MCE British Superbike Championship.

Ernesto Marinelli, the project leader for Ducati Corse SBK, was present at the test as Tom Tunstall completed the first laps on the Jentin machine.

“This morning we were literally running the Ducati for the first time and for me it was the first time I had been on a bike since Snetterton last year so I had to blow the cobwebs away,” Tunstall told the British Superbike website.

“The Panigale exceeded my expectations; the chassis is really nimble and the engine has a really nice punch to it and it still kept pulling. It is just brilliant and I am so excited to be on it.

"It is still early days, we have Alex (Polita) joining us tomorrow at Snetterton so we can learn more then once we have completed this initial day today. We have had great support from Ducati and I also want to thank them."

Scott Smart also put the Moto Rapido Ducati through its paces at the circuit prior to tomorrow's test at Snetterton.

The team's owner, Steve Moore, added: “The whole team has done very well to have the new bike out and running today as we only received them a few weeks ago.

"This is an initial run out for us today and there has been a great reception from the fans wanting to have a look at the new Ducati.

“We have fantastic support here from Ducati and Motec and we are using the track as a big dyno so we are ready for tomorrow at Snetterton.”

The Ducati being ridden by Tunstall at Brands and Tunstall and Polita at Snetterton was running std Ducati electronics. The Ducati will not run on the Motec electronic system properly without casing massive engine damage. Motec are trying to rectify the problem but unless they sort it quickly the Panigale might not even make the grid. If i recall Jentin had a similar problem with the BMW and Brogan in 2010 and used std BMW electrics for a few rounds but no way can this be allowed to happen now everyone is on the controlled ECU. NO MOTEC ECU..NO ENTRY..NO RACE.
