Samsung Honda duo get down to business at Brands Hatch

'We have been running a pretty good pace here and I think we are only a few tenths off the time I did here previously last year' - Michael Laverty
Samsung Honda riders Michael Laverty and Jon Kirkham seized the opportunity on Wednesday to continue their pre-season testing programme before travelling to Snetterton for a further shakedown ahead of next month's opening round of the MCE British Superbike Championship.

The Samsung team officially unveiled its new livery at Brands Hatch, with a striking all-blue colour scheme in stark contrast to the previous black and orange livery of the HM Plant Fireblades.

Northern Irishman Laverty experimented with a new Kenny Roberts swingarm on his CBR1000RR and revealed he was only a few tenths of a second off his best times from 2011.

Laverty told the British Superbike website: “I am happy with the work we have been able to do today [Wednesday]. We had a fairly decent starting point after our recent tests at Cadwell Park and Snetterton and today we have been fine tuning.

“We focused today on testing a Kenny Roberts swingarm which we used in a couple of sessions to test, then we switched back to the kit one for the final session so we had a good amount of data from back to back sessions,” he added.

“We have been running a pretty good pace here and I think we are only a few tenths off the time I did here previously last year, so I am quite happy.”

Kirkham was unconcerned about clocking a fast time at Brands as he concentrated on arriving at a solid setting before further testing at Snetterton.

“It has been going well again today and I am just trying to get the Samsung Honda dialled in so that I feel comfortable with the setting ahead of the first round. I haven't been worried about lap times, it has just been about getting everything right and we have made a fair amount of progression.

“We have been able to run race distance and do consistent lap times so the work we have been doing on tyre wear seems to have been positive. We are definitely making progress and we will have to see what happens now when we go back to Snetterton."

The Samsung Honda pair were joined on track by Padgetts Honda riders Ian Lowry and Luca Scassa.
