Michael Laverty fastest in Snetterton test

22 March 2012

Samsung Honda's Michael Laverty unofficially topped the MCE British Superbike test at Snetterton on Thursday.

Laverty edged out reigning champion Tommy Hill on the Swan Yamaha with a best lap of 1m 48.5s.

Laverty and team-mate Jon Kirkham had tested at the Snetterton 300 circuit last week and it benefited Northern Irishman Laverty, who lapped consistently in the 1m 48s bracket on his CBR1000RR.

"It has been good. Yesterday we tested a new GPMS swingarm and we didn't come to a proper decision," Laverty told the official British Superbike website.

"We started on the kit one this morning and then we did a couple of sessions; we then switched over to compare back to back. We found a good direction and we are set on using the kit swingarm for now as it was better for grip and I did my best lap times during those sessions.

"I am really happy as we were doing times consistently and we now look forward to the next test at Cadwell Park."

Kirkham broke into the 1m 49s bracket and although he suffered a fast crash at the end of the Bentley Straight, he was able to continue testing and remains in confident mood ahead of the Cadwell shakedown.

"It was tough as there were quite a lot of bikes on the circuit, but we were able to get straight down to some times," he said.

"In the second session I knocked 1.5 seconds off my previous lap time, but the next lap round I had the big crash; I bottomed the forks and learnt the hard way.

"The team rebuilt the bike and did a great job and we were happy with the end result after the final sessions."

Alex Lowes (WFR Honda), Shane Byrne (Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki), Kirkham and Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes were unofficially inside the top six, followed by Padgetts Honda duo Luca Scassa and Ian Lowry, Alastair Seeley on the second Tyco Suzuki and Graeme Gowland (WFR Honda).

Swan Yamaha's Noriyuki Haga was credited with a lap of 1m 51.7s. No time was provided for Stuart Easton on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki.
