Michael Laverty concentrating on race simulations

'I am going to have a go at a one-lap time ahead of qualifying as I still haven't done that over the past two days' - Michael Laverty
Samsung Honda's Michael Laverty has been a permanent fixture in the leaderboard positions at Brands Hatch this weekend, but the Northern Irishman says he's yet to push for a really fast lap.

Laverty, who was strong during pre-season testing on the Honda Fireblade at Snetterton where he set the fastest time, has been concentrating on race simulations during the four free practice sessions held so far.

“It has been another pretty good day for us today; this morning was cold and damp and so we continued the work we have been doing on tyre life and it has had some positive results,” he said.

“We did a race run this afternoon and we were able to run consistent times, even with some traffic. I then came back in, changed to a different tyre and then did my best lap and again that wasn't a clear one or needing to push too hard so we still have some more pace there.

“We know that tyre life is going to be critical come the races and we have been running both soft and harder tyres over distance with some good results.

“We still have a few changes to test, but tomorrow I am going to have a go at a one-lap time ahead of qualifying as I still haven't done that over the past two days. I am feeling good and I think we will have more for qualifying tomorrow as there is so little in it at the moment.”

Laverty was second quickest overall today as he came within 0.044s of knocking his former Swan Yamaha team-mate Tommy Hill off the top spot.

He has been comfortable on the Honda Fireblade almost from day one and his form during pre-season has marked him out as one of the main title favourites in 2012.
