Lowry returns to BSB top five at Brands

Ian Lowry claims his first BSB top five finish since 2009 on a successful debut outing with the Padgetts Honda team.
Almost three years after he last enjoyed a top five finish at MCE British Superbike level, Ian Lowry got his 2012 campaign off to a fine start with a run to fourth in the truncated season opener at Brands Hatch.

The Ulsterman heads into 2012 with renewed confidence after penning a deal with respected outfit Padgetts Honda – itself returning to the BSB fray this season -, Lowry keen to put two difficult years behind him and rediscover the form that took him to fifth overall in 2009.

Following a successful pre-season training programme, Lowry proved himself to be a top ten contender throughout the Brands Hatch weekend, even if the arrival of rain in qualifying prevented him from going higher than 11th.

Nonetheless, though conditions had worsened for race day, Lowry made swift progress up the order and as others committed errors to scupper their hopes of a good result, the 25-year-old's error-free performance was justly rewarded with a fine fourth place finish.

"It's been a great weekend and start to the season for me personally and I'm really pleased with the opening race result of fourth place with the Padgetts crew. We've worked hard all weekend and found a good set up for all weather conditions.

“I'm feeling really happy and confident about the rest of the season and hope I can get some more good results through the year and continue this progress. There is still a lot more to come from myself and the team and I can't wait now for the rest of the season."

The first time Lowry has finished a BSB race inside the top five since the 2009 finale at Oulton Park, the result means he has also accumulated half of his entire 2011 points' tally in just a single race.

I would say he would want to give everyone a run for his money. He turned down the TAS seat last year for the BMW team cause they were supposed to have factory support which was a load of balls. He openly regretted the move. I think he will do well if he gives up the drink, smokes and doesn't get the cl*p!!!!
