Having originally looked ahead to the opening round of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch as nothing more than an interested spectator, Tommy Bridewell comes away from the weekend having notched up BMW's best-ever result at BSB level.
Quite the turnaround for a rider that only managed to secure the last remaining ride available at Supersonic Racing a mere day before action got underway at Brands Hatch, Bridewell put in one of the performances of the weekend with his run to sixth position on race day.
Indeed, having stunned on the way to seventh on the grid in qualifying, Bridewell defied his lack of experience on the BMW S1000RR by not only staying upright in tricky weather conditions, but progress a position by overtaking former champion Shane Byrne on the final lap.
Also a remarkable result for ex-WSBK competitors Supersonic on their BSB debut, Bridewell was thrilled to already have a top six finish under his belt.
"It was a good day and I am happy with how the race went,” said ex-Tyco Honda rider Bridewell. “Starting in seventh and ending in sixth. The conditions were horrible all day, so achieving such a good result makes it even more obvious how impressive the team is and how hard they work.
“Now I look forward to Thruxton, where I'm hoping for two good results and looking forward to enjoy to racing the BMW."
The result also marks the best BSB finish by a BMW rider since the German manufacturer having made its first appearance in the series in 2010.
