Alex Polita marked his introduction to British Superbike competition with an encouraging run to 11th position at Brands Hatch, in turn scoring useful points for the much anticipated Ducati 1199 Panigale.
The Italian, a former European Superstock 1000 champion, switches to the British series after spells on the World and Italian Superbike stage, joining the Doodson Jentin team.
Riding Ducati's all-new Panigale 1199, Polita endured a difficult start to the weekend as he battled teething troubles on the recently delivered bike, the 27-year-old proceeding to qualify in a lowly 28th.
Nonetheless, Polita made impressive gains during the wet race as he scythed his way up the order, squeezing into the points before advancing to his eventual 11th place finish, ahead of Noriyuki Haga. Satisfied with his finish after a difficult start, Polita is confident better results will be forthcoming.
“It was a tough weekend from the first day. A series of problems didn't allow us to have a good qualification. We could qualify in the top ten, but when I stopped in the garage to fix something during Q1 it started raining and I couldn't improve my time.”
“Monday in race one I started carefully because of the rain. I'm happy with my eleventh; it's a quite good result on a difficult weekend. It was exciting to pass Haga at the first corner as well as trying to overtake Brookes.
“It's a shame we couldn't contend race two, I'd could start tenth and try to have a good position. We'll make up for it at Thruxton.”
