“But we had a strange weekend again. I had a few set-up issues and then I made the wrong call on tyres between races after really struggling in the first race with the front tyre.”
Laverty readily acknowledges that he has the expertise of the best team in the paddock behind him and an overall package that offers him his most likely chance yet of becoming British Superbike champion.
“One of the main reasons that made me switch to Honda from Yamaha is that it is a proven package and the rules kind of suit the Fireblade and the team has the experience and credentials – they are proven winners,” he said.
“It was the best opportunity to make me a British champion and I still believe that's the case; I still feel I'm in the best possible position to try and fight for the British title this year.
“It's not to prove anything to anyone, it's a personal hunger that most racers have and it never dwindles – I work harder now than I have done in training and on the technical side with my crew.”
