Shane Byrne has set himself up for qualifying at Snetterton later today by setting the fastest lap time of the weekend thus far in FP3.

The Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider, who arrives at the Norfolk venue having taken his first win of the British Superbike Championship season at Oulton Park, battled it out with Ian Lowry during the final stages of the session before surging forward with a late effort of 1min 48.860secs.

The first rider of the weekend to dip below 1min 49secs, Byrne was almost six tenths faster than Padgetts Honda rider Lowry, the former series leader keen to bounce back at Snetterton after a disappointing Oulton Park weekend.

Having missed part of Friday's action with technical issues, Tommy Bridewell was an impressive third quickest on the Supersonic BMW, while WFR Honda's Alex Lowes and Graeme Gowland held down fourth and sixth respectively, the pair sandwiching fifth place man Josh Brookes.

Together with Bridewell, Noriyuki Haga was one of the session's big improvers as he not only went seventh fastest on the Swan Yamaha, but also edged out Friday pace setters Michael Laverty and team-mate Tommy Hill.

Luca Scassa rounded out the top ten aboard the second of the Padgetts Honda's, holding Jon Kirkham, Chris Walker, Dan Linfoot and Alastair Seeley at bay, the latter attempting to recover lost time having seen his race bike go up in flames during a crash in FP2.

Qualifying for the fourth round of the British Superbike Championship season takes place at 14.35
