Hickman steps in for injured Linfoot
22 June 2012
Peter Hickman will make a return to the MCE British Superbike Championship grid this weekend after being called up to replace Dan Linfoot on the Buildbase BMW at Knockhill.
Linfoot crashed during the closing stages of FP2 and was diagnosed with a broken thumb and fifth finger, ruling him out for the remainder of the Scottish event.
Nonetheless, Buildbase BMW has already sourced a replacement in Hickman, who will make his first appearance on BMW S1000RR machinery in Saturday's qualifying and Sunday's two races. Despite the very late call-up, Hickman is nonetheless looking forward to the challenge,
"It is a big shame for Dan to have his weekend ended and it is unfortunate circumstances but at the same time I can't wait to get back out on a bike as it feels like it has been ages! It won't be easy coming straight in for free practice three then out for qualifying but I am up for the challenge and I can't wait.
“Dan has been setting some good times but I haven't really got too much experience of the BMWs so we will wait and see. I just want to thank the team for the opportunity and I hope Dan can come back soon."
Hickman, who enjoyed a breakthrough season with Tyco Honda last season, began the year with MSS Bathams Kawasaki, but was dismissed after three rounds when he took a one-off ride with FIXI Crescent Suzuki in the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park.
Linfoot isn't the only rider being forced to skip Knockhill after Pr1mo Bournemouth Kawasaki rider Chris Walker suffered two suspected fractured heels as a consequence of an FP1 crash. Full confirmation of his injuries have not been made, however.
