Josh Brookes ensured things remain fairly open ahead of qualifying for the fifth round of the 2012 MCE British Superbike Championship at Knockhill as he became the third different practice pace setter in three sessions.

Topping the timesheets on a damp circuit, Brookes went quickest with just over five minutes remaining, though lap times were more than three seconds down on FP2.

Friday front runner Michael Laverty was second quickest on the Samsung Honda, the Snetterton race winner, together with third place Michael Rutter on the MSS Bathams Kawasaki, making late advances to move ahead of Noriyuki Haga in the closing stages.

Tommy Hill was fifth best on the second of the Swan Yamahas, ahead of Alastair Seeley, Shane Byrne and James Westmoreland, while Jon Kirkham and Alex Lowes rounded out the top ten.

Further back, Peter Hickman put in a respectable first showing on the Buildbase BMW having been called up at the last minute to deputise for the injured Dan Linfoot. Despite his lack of track time, Hickman was 17th quickest, less than two seconds off the pace and faster than regular rider Barry Burrell.

Meanwhile, Chris Walker has been passed fit to race at Knockhill this weekend, despite sustaining injuries to his feet in an accident during practice. The Pr1mo Bournemouth Kawasaki rider was expected to skip the meeting, but will be back on track for qualifying this afternoon having sat out FP3.
