BSS: Mar-Train Racing owner keeping feet on the ground

'We might be leading the championship, but as I always say, we will not get carried away' - Tim Martin
Northern Ireland's Mar-Train Racing team owner Tim Martin has reflected on a dream introduction to the British Supersport Championship, with the rookie outfit currently leading the title chase after five rounds.

Dublin's Jack Kennedy has been an ultra-consistent performer on the Mar-Train Yamaha R6, only finishing off the rostrum twice in the opening ten races.

He heads the championship standings by 18.5 points from Glen Richards after finishing second and third in the latest round of the series at Knockhill, while young protégé Taylor Mackenzie continues to impress in his debut year in the middleweight class.

Martin's team may be making a huge impact in the championship since stepping up to British championship level for the first time this year, but he is taking nothing for granted.

“I have to say it's been a baptism of fire coming into British Supersport this season. It's bloody hard work and we're getting there, but most importantly everyone is really enjoying it," he said.

"We might be leading the championship, but as I always say, we will not get carried away, and if we keep learning we can only improve and get better all the time.

"One of the strengths we probably have is being a smaller team than most, and everyone in our set-up is really grounded.

"The two riders are also very much part of the whole team structure and if anyone ever sees us packing up at the end of a meeting – both riders are in there helping out. We don't do prima donnas!" Martin added.

Kennedy has won three races already this season to justify the team's decision to take its chances in the cut and thrust world of the Supersport series.

Looking ahead to this weekend's sixth round at Oulton Park, Martin feels confident the Cheshire circuit will favour Kennedy and the Mar-Train R6.
