Tommy Bridewell overcame indifferent grid positions to strengthen his bid to make the MCE British Superbike Championship 'Title Showdown', the youngster now up to fifth in the standings.

Though he is yet to score a podium finish this year, Bridewell has finished all but three of the 13 races inside the top ten, though his impressive run looked under threat after qualifying when he could only manage 17th on the grid.

Nonetheless, the Supersonic BMW rider picked his way up the order to finish an excellent sixth before consolidating that with seventh and eighth place finishes in races one and two. Lifting him to a new peak of fifth in the standings, Bridewell is now six points clear of seventh place Ian Lowry.

"Race one was up and down. We had a few technical problems in the free practice in the morning and then in qualifying I wasn't really happy with my riding. I managed to turn it back around in the race and came sixth from 17th, so I was pretty happy with that

"Day two was not a bad day for us. We managed to fix the problems we had earlier this weekend so overall I'm happy to be fifth in the championship and now we have to keep pushing hard for Brands Hatch."
