Keith Farmer reflects on BSB debut at Oulton Park

'I was happy with qualifying but disappointed to crash even though the second time wasn't my fault' - Keith Farmer
Northern Ireland's Keith Farmer endured a baptism of fire as he made his debut in the MCE British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park.

Farmer was drafted into the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki team as a replacement for Stuart Easton.

Easton is recovering from a knee injury he suffered at Silverstone and Clogher rider Farmer was offered the chance to take the Scot's place in the team at the Cheshire circuit.

Farmer, who is currently leading the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship for Paul Bird's team, qualified in a stunning 13th position.

It was a remarkable effort by the Ulster rider, who was having his first ride on a Superbike at Oulton.

Unfortunately he crashed out early in the race and Farmer was again the victim of bad luck when he went down at high-speed during the morning warm-up session on Sunday following a clash with another rider.

The ZX-10R was so badly damaged that Farmer was unable to take his place on the grid for race two, but his team worked hard to have the machine ready for the third and final race and the Co Tyrone man finished 20th after a steady ride.

Farmer also finished third in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 race to extend his advantage in the series to six points.

“My aim at the weekend was to increase my lead in the Superstock 1000 Championship and that's what I did, but not by as many points as I would have liked,” he said.

“It was a memorable meeting, that's for sure and I'd like to thank the team for giving me the opportunity of riding the Superbike.

“I was happy with qualifying but disappointed to crash even though the second time wasn't my fault.”
