Michael Laverty has received a confidence boost ahead of the Brands Hatch round of the MCE British Superbike Championship as he topped official testing on the Indy layout.
With noise restrictions preventing the full GP configuration from being used until Saturday, Friday's sole practice session was held around the short Indy circuit to allow the riders to set up their bikes.
In a close session typical of the small layout, Laverty was less than a tenth faster than Honda counterpart Alex Lowes, while Josh Brookes, Ian Lowry and Graeme Gowland followed a short distance behind in third, fourth and fifth.
Championship leader Tommy Hill was sixth best on the Swan Yamaha, ahead of rival Shane Byrne, while Supersonic BMW pairing Tommy Bridewell and Patric Muff emerged just ahead of Noriyuki Haga.
Just one second would cover the first 21 riders, with Karl Harris and Mark Aitchison – making their respective debuts with Quattro Plant Kawasaki and Splitlath Redmond Aprilia – within that in 14th and 17th.
