Brookes: Shakey didn't crack

“You could see what I was doing, trying inside, outside and every side to force Shakey into a mistake” – Josh Brookes.
Josh Brookes booked his place in the 2012 MCE British Superbike Championship title Showdown with two runner-up places at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

The Tyco Suzuki rider's tenth and eleventh podiums of the season were enough to confirm a top six place - alongside Tommy Hill and Shane Byrne - with two Main Season rounds still to spare.

“I'm not usually happy with second place but on this occasion I'm happy enough. I enjoyed both races and the bike worked perfectly; we just didn't quite have enough to match Shakey out there,” said Brookes, who finished just 0.5s and 1.5s behind double Brands winner Byrne.

“We lost time in qualifying with the crash but we worked hard, made a few changes after race one and that gave me more confidence. You could see what I was doing, trying inside, outside and every side to force Shakey into a mistake, as I knew if I just sat there he's never make one, but he doesn't crack.

“It was a good weekend. Thanks to all the boys in the team for the big effort.”

While Brookes can concentrate on podium credits and prepare for the Showdown, team-mate Alastair Seeley is just tenth in the standings and needs to bridge a 23-point gap to Noriyuki Haga, who currently holds the final Showdown place.

“There's a few twists and turns to come yet I'd say, so I'm not giving up on that Showdown place until it's mathematically impossible,” declared Seeley, who claimed 9-11 results at Brands.

Alistair has not been at the races this seasonal far as BSB goes. I am a great fan of his but he just can't ride the bike at this level. It will be his last year with the TAS in BSB . You just cannot compare him to Josh , he's just at a higher level. Hector and Philip has done there best for him with the best of machinery but he has not stepped up ! Alistair, head down and keep the throttle open ! Come on for your Ulster fans!
