Following an encouraging British Superbike Championship debut at Donington Park, Troy Herfoss will get a stay of execution with the Splitlath Redmond Aprilia team at Assen after Mark Aitchison was once again ruled out by injury.

Herfoss was called up to ride the sole Splitlath Redmond Aprilia at Donington Park, the Australian going on to perform respectably on an unfamiliar machine, but was set to be replaced by the incoming Jakub Smrz for the final three rounds of the 2012 season.

However, with Aitchison still struggling with the finger injury he picked up at Cadwell Park last month, Herfoss will now line up alongside Smrz in the Netherlands.

Hoping to utilise his greater knowledge of the RSV-4, as well as his experience of competing at Assen from his time in the IDM Superbike series, Herfoss is duly setting his sights high.

"This weekend I think it's possible to be a lot higher placed, and depending on how I adapt to the bike this time I would like to think I can ride into the top 10," he said.

"At this track I have been fast all year and not everyone has tested here. Also, having Kuba beside me can only be a help and motivation. Mostly I'm just appreciative that the team has given me another opportunity to work with them again."
