Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes was knocked off the top spot yesterday by Showdown rival Alex Lowes, but the Donington double winner says he's ready for a renewed effort at Assen today.

Brookes, who is ten points adrift of MCE British Superbike Championship leader Tommy Hill with the final three Showdown rounds remaining, was battling chatter issues yesterday but still managed to end the opening day of practice in second position.

The Aussie found an improved set-up in the afternoon session but was demoted to second place following a late surge by WFR Honda man Lowes.

"The bike was sore on the tyre in the opening session and we were suffering from chatter, so we made a few changes that adjusted the feel but didn't cure the problem; then we made a further change mid-way through the session that did work for us," said Brookes.

"It also reduced the chatter and improved grip. I came in for a fresh tyre and went P1 but just dropped down to P2 at the end of the session.

"But we're ready to go again."
