Alex Lowes made his intentions clear as he sealed pole position for tomorrow's opening round of the MCE British Superbike Championship Showdown at Assen.
The WFR Honda rider is 33 points behind Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill in the series standings but threw down the gauntlet to his rivals today as he claimed his second pole start of the campaign.
Lowes had the benefit of prior test time at Assen after riding for the Ten Kate Honda World Superbike team last year and admits the experience has stood him in good stead as he prepares for tomorrow's races.
“I knew my way around having had two days here last year testing with the Ten Kate Honda team so have been able to set my bike up well for the circuit,” Lowes said.
“I've been consistent, had a good pace and done a series of good laps and pushed on really hard.
“In terms of the championship I am behind but I am going out there to enjoy it, be consistent, fast and do my best. I am up for the fight,” added Lowes on the official British Superbike website.
The Lincolnshire rider took the top spot by 0.181s from Samsung Honda's Michael Laverty with Jakub Smrz a sensational third on his debut for the Splitlath Redmond Aprilia team.
The Czech ace held off Hill to earn a front row start by a tenth of a second with Aussie Josh Brookes fifth on the Tyco Suzuki.
