Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill says he has plenty in reserve as he focuses on extending his advantage in the MCE British Superbike Championship at Assen tomorrow.

Hill cemented a front row start in fourth place as he prepares for the opening round of the Showdown stage of the series.

The reigning champion has struggled to arrive at an optimum setting for the Yamaha YZF-R1 at Assen but believes he has more left in the tank for tomorrow's crucial races at the iconic Dutch track.

"Every time we have gone out here this weekend we have been making chassis and gearing changes and it is a different feeling here with the bike compared to some of the previous circuits we have raced on," Hill said.

"To be honest with the changing conditions I was pretty shocked to have done the time that I did.

"We have been working with the different tyre options and we had a good pace but the changeable conditions just meant we couldn't push that little bit extra today," he added.

"We had some in reserve and we want to have a strong race tomorrow."

His team-mate, Noriyuki Haga, qualified in 14th position and will start from the fourth row of the grid.
