Josh Brookes sits proudly at the top of the MCE British Superbike Championship following a show-stealing performance in the Showdown opener at Assen.
The Tyco Suzuki rider took a runner-up finish in race one behind Shane Byrne but capped the day with a deserved victory in race two, edging out Byrne with a perfectly executed move on the final lap of the race.
Brookes now leads the championship charge by two points from Byrne as Tommy Hill drops to third place ahead of this weekend's penultimate round at Silverstone.
The Aussie experienced chatter problems on his GSX-R1000 but made the right set-up choice for race two, when he revealed he was “always going to make the pass” on Byrne on the final lap.
“We suffered a bit with chatter here this weekend and tyre wear but we just managed it and found a set-up where we could do the lap times that were good enough to win the second race, said Brookes.
“We did make a few small changes for race two which gave me better performance on the GSX-R1000, and I was able to run the race to Shakey.
“I was always going to try and make the pass, just didn't expect it to come down to the final chicane, but it was a good weekend and thanks to the whole team for the effort.”
