Lowes shows he means business at Assen

'Even though I was last to make it into the Showdown I didn't want to come and just make up the numbers' - Alex Lowes
Alex Lowes underlined his status as a serious contender for the MCE British Superbike crown after twice finishing on the rostrum at Assen.

The WFR Honda ace, who qualified on pole for race one, has moved into fourth place in the championship table after a brace of third place finishes at the legendary circuit.

Lowes' stunning performance in the first of the three Showdown rounds of the series have elevated him to fourth in the standings, two points ahead of Northern Ireland's Michael Laverty on the Samsung Honda.

In race one, Lowes held second place after passing Josh Brookes and Michael Laverty on lap 12, but was unable to make an impression on eventual winner Shane Byrne.

Brookes fought back to wrestle the runner-up spot away from Lowes on his Tyco Suzuki on lap 16 and the leading trio took the chequered flag in that order.

Lowes was in the thick of the action again in race two and followed Brookes as the Aussie eased ahead of Michael Laverty on lap nine to move into third.

However, he looked poised to be denied a podium finish as Tommy Hill forced his way through, but Lowes struck with a hard move on the last lap at the final chicane to earn his second rostrum result on a superb day for the WFR Honda team.

“I had another bad start which is something I need to work on, but once I got up to speed I felt good and knew I could push hard to get to back up there,” said Lowes after the second race.

“I'm really pleased to be on the podium again and to be fourth in the championship.

“Even though I was last to make it into the Showdown I didn't want to come and just make up the numbers,” he added.

“It'll be tough to beat the likes of 'Shakey' and Josh but I'll keep riding hard as long as I can to finish the season in the best position possible.”

Good weekend for Alex. He made most of the others look average and his hunger for the win made him a top rider. I have no doubt he will win the BSB if he stays here.
