Shane Byrne says he is looking for nothing less than wins when he returns to Brands Hatch for the final round of the 2012 MCE British Superbike Championship season.
Though he was only classified third heading into the 'Title Showdown', Byrne's one win and three second place finishes have seen him nose ahead by nine points with just the three races at Brands Hatch separating him from his third BSB title.
Indeed, despite the fairly meagre gap back to Josh Brookes and the knowledge that Alex Lowes and Tommy Hill aren't out of the reckoning either, the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki can take heart in the fact he has an envious record around his home circuit having won five of the last seven races to be held on the longer GP configuration.
Nonetheless, Byrne insists he won't be relying on mere good form on this occasion as he strives to record Kawasaki's first BSB title since John Reynolds in 1992.
“Brands Hatch is going to be the event of the season; there is going to be some hard racing and I will be giving it everything to win the title. Mathematically it is possible for all six of us to win the title so we are all going out to try and win races, but I have one goal and that is to be the champion.”
Beyond Brookes, Lowes is 24 points behind, while reigning champion Hill is 42 points adrift. Michael Laverty and Tommy Bridewell are mathematically in the running too, 49 and 64 points away.
