Twelve months after seizing the 2011 MCE British Superbike Championship in what will likely remain one of the tightest-ever title showdowns, Tommy Hill returns to Brands Hatch on the verge of ceding his crown

Quite the turnaround for a rider that was 35 points ahead of his rivals prior to the Title Showdown - and 12 points ahead in terms of podium credits -, disappointing races at Assen and Silverstone have seen him slip out of close contention with just the three races of Brands Hatch remaining.

Indeed, though Hill is still mathematically in with a shout of the title, he is 42 points adrift with a maximum of 75 points available from the triple-header.

Eyeing a brace of wins at Brands Hatch to give him a fighting chance of the title, the Swan Yamaha rider nonetheless admits he is 'gutted' with how the Showdown has gone for him this year.

"We definitely want to go to Brands Hatch and turn things around. It is gutting how the Showdown has been but that is how racing goes sometimes," he said. "We have to aim for the triple win as if we do that there is nothing more we can do.

I can't think about the championship, I just need to try and win all three races and then anything can still happen. If it does then I need to be in a position to pick up the pieces.

"This is my job and throughout my career I have had ups and downs, possibly more than most, but the instinct is to fight back and we want to end the season on top with wins. I have come back before and we need to do it again now."
