Bridewell shows potential in breakthrough season

Having started the year without a ride, Tommy Bridewell ends it with sixth in the overall British Superbike standings and a lofty reputation.
Though his season wouldn't quite end with the podium he had set his heart on, Tommy Bridewell can come away from the final round of the 2012 MCE British Superbike Championship knowing he was fully deserving of his place in the 'Title Showdown'.

Embarking on something of a fairytale story this year, Bridewell only secured his ride with Supersonic BMW on the eve of the season in place of the Moto2-bound Anthony West, but quickly made his mark in the opening rounds.

Shrugging off the team's inexperience at BSB level, Bridewell was rarely classified outside the top six overall throughout the season and would come into the Title Showdown as the fifth-best placed rider.

Though somewhat overshadowed by Alex Lowes during the final rounds, Bridewell's form nonetheless spiked during the Showdown and though he would fall just short of the podium, he was still a top seven finisher in each of the final seven races.

In fact, Bridewell missed the top ten on just three occasions in 2012, a remarkable accomplishment for both rider and team considering their last minute association with one another.

"The last round here in Brands was long. The team did a mega job getting into the Showdown, it was a long journey. It was a lot of hard work for everyone and getting a reward that we deserved feels great.

“Hopefully we have something to build on for next year. Thanks to everyone who made this happen. Thanks to Danilo for giving me the opportunity to show my potential."

Helping BMW achieve its best-ever results at BSB level, Danilo Soncini was delighted that his Supersonic Racing team would prove competitive on its debut.

"This was our best season and I was happy to participate in British Superbikes. I would like to say thank you to my riders Tommy and Patric and the whole Supersonic crew - Stefano, Alessandro, Saverio, Andy, James, John, Lee, Denisa and everyone. Also Stuart Higgs and Jonathan Palmer who made me feel welcome in British Superbikes. I'm happy. Thanks everyone for an amazing season."

Always knew you're better than the results showed Tommy, you proved this when you beat both HM Plant Honda's during your wildcard ride at world supers. Hope you get a better ride next year, you definitely deserve it. Well done Tommy, Ollie would be proud.
