Keith Farmer has perfect mentor in Shane Byrne

'If you'd asked me three years ago where I'd be in racing I never have imagined I'd be riding in Paul Bird's British Superbike team' - Keith Farmer
Northern Ireland's Keith Farmer says he has been inspired by Shane Byrne as he looks ahead to his debut in the MCE British Superbike Championship in 2013.

The Clogher rider has excelled on the English circuits in his first two seasons, winning the Superstock 600 and 1000 titles to earn a chance in Paul Bird's Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki team in BSB next year.

Farmer couldn't ask for a better mentor in his corner than the triple BSB champion and says 'Shakey's' advice was invaluable this year as the 25-year-old battled his way to the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 crown.

“Throughout this past year 'Shakey' has helped me out a great deal,” Farmer said.

“He's been giving me bits and pieces of advice and pointing things out that have helped me improve my riding and if it wasn't for his help this year I couldn't even answer where I'd have finished up.

“Hopefully things will stay the same now that I'm his full-time team-mate!

“But he's always been willing to help and I don't think it'll be any different next year,” he added.

One of the hottest young talents around, former Irish Supermoto champion Farmer's rise through the ranks has been phenomenal, but the modest Ulsterman hasn't allowed his instant success to cloud his focus.

“If you'd asked me three years ago where I'd be in racing I never have imagined I'd be riding in Paul Bird's British Superbike team,” he said.

“To go from Superstock 600 to Superstock 1000 and then BSB with a top team has taken me by surprise to be honest.

“Next season I'm not sure where I'll be finishing because there are so many good riders in BSB and it'll be my first year in the class.

“It's a great opportunity for me in Paul's team and while nothing has ever been mentioned for the future, who knows where it might lead.”

Keith is an exceptionally talented and fast lad - I have had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times, plus hid dad, brother and crew - they are super genuine guys who simply love their racing, regardless of the series they are in. A very humble guy who deserves all the success - good luck next season Keith. Must say, well done to Paul Bird for seeing the talent so early in SS600 and supportig him. Mogster
