Andrews set to contest Superstock 1000 series on RAF Reserves Honda

'After initial meetings with the team I could see that they were very professional and driven towards achieving success and that's something I share' - Simon Andrews
Simon Andrews will contest the National Superstock 1000 Championship on a Honda Fireblade for the RAF Reserves Racing team.

Honda UK has again committed to supporting the Royal Royal Air Force Reserves Racing project in 2013 and has recruited Andrews to spearhead its assault on the title.

The 28-year-old from Evesham, who will also compete in the Endurance World Championship again this year for the Honda TT Legends team, has a wealth of experience in the British championships and finished as the runner-up in the Evo class in 2011.

He has overcome a string of serious injuries over the past few season, sustaining a badly broken leg after a crash at Snetterton in 2011 and breaking his shoulder, wrist and ankle in an accident during the Superbike race at the Isle of Man TT last June.

Andrews will again compete at the North West 200 road races in Northern Ireland, where he finished fourth in the second Superbike race in 2012, plus the TT.

“The project appealed to me from the outset and I was very interested to be a part of it, being the rider who carries the responsibility of a recruiting campaign is pretty exciting,” said Andrews.

“I am looking forward to working with the RAF Reserves race team this season and it will provide me with an excellent opportunity to keep sharp throughout the season, in between racing duties with the Honda TT Legends and the road racing calendar.

“The Superstock 1000 Championship is very competitive but I have my sights set on winning it,” he added.

“After initial meetings with the team I could see that they were very professional and driven towards achieving success and that's something I share.

“I think together we will make a good team, who knows, they may even get me signing up to the RAF Reserves at this rate, keep me sharp in the off-season!”

The team will continue to be managed by Lee Hardy, an employee of the Forward Engineering Support Squadron at RAF Marham, a former racer himself and team manager for the last two years.

Andrews will also benefit from technical input from race engineers of the Samsung Honda British Superbike team.
