Reigning British Supersport champion Glen Richards has had his first taste of action on the all-new Smiths Racing Triumph in Spain.
Richards and teammate Billy McConnell rode the new Triumph 675 at Calafat as they prepare for the first round of the series at Brands Hatch in April.
With two days of testing completed, Richards told the British Superbike website he was 'very pleased' with the progress made so far.
“It is early days but I am happy with how we have been going out here.
“It is obviously a new bike so we had a lot of donkey work to begin with; working on the mapping, geometry and suspension bit by bit,” he said.
“It is inherently similar to the old version, but certainly the chassis is improved and the engine is really good.
“I am very pleased with how it has gone so far and I am happy to be back out on the bike; it has put a smile back on my face that is for sure.
“Yesterday was the first time I had ridden the bike full stop, but I certainly can't complain.”
Richards was crowned British champion in dramatic style at the final round of the championship in 2012, crashing out of the final race before retaking the series lead when closest rival Jack Kennedy retired with mechanical trouble.
