Lowes straight on the pace at Donington

Samsung Honda's Alex Lowes sets a strong pace on the first of four official pre-season British Superbike Championship tests at Donington Park.
Samsung Honda's new recruit Alex Lowes wasted little time on stamping his mark on the MCE British Superbike Championship field as he commanded the pace on the first day of pre-season testing at Donington Park.

The 22-year-old moves over to the factory-supported Honda Racing team in 2013 after his eye-catching turn on the satellite WFR Honda in 2012, a tenure that yielded two race wins and a run to fourth position in the overall standings.

Joining the majority of his BSB rivals for the first of four pre-season tests at Donington Park, Lowes upstaged series returning team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari and reigning champion Shane Byrne by turning in the fastest lap of 1min 31.283secs.

Pleased to be up to speed already, Lowes was particularly happy to get the chance to understand more about the Ohlins suspension he will be using this year.

"I am happy as I managed to set a comfortable pace and the pace we were able to run allowed us to work on the front suspension which we hadn't the chance to look at last week at Cadwell Park,” he told the official British Superbike website.

“We have a good starting point on the setting and I have got to understand the Ohlins suspension a lot more. We are taking little steps, doing lots of laps and then making progress as we go along. I am enjoying the Samsung Honda and I need to thank Stu, Mel and Ian for all their work so far."
