Top AMA rookie Aquino in Superstock 1000 challenge

'They are a great group of guys so between Jon [Railton] and I, we should be very competitive this year' - Tommy Aquino
AMA rookie of the year and Daytona Sport Bike race winner Tommy Aquino will contest the National Superstock 1000 Championship this season on a GR Motorsport-prepared Kawasaki.

Aquino joins fellow Superstock rider Jon Railton in the team, which is backed by new sponsor WD-40.

Joe Francis will also ride in the WD-40 colours for the team in the Motostar British Championship.

AMA hot-shot Aquino is ready to make the step up to the 1000cc class after competing in the 600cc division in the Daytona Sport Bike series.

Aquino said: “It's going to be a great year of racing and learning with Team WD-40.

“They are a great group of guys so between Jon and I, we should be very competitive this year.”

Team owner Brent Gladwin added: “We were looking for another great young rider to join Jon and Joe in Team WD-40 we were introduced to Tommy via Geoff Crust and Wayne Rainey.

“Tommy's history speaks for its self and the American affinity to WD-40 made perfect sense.

“His arrival from the warmth of California to a very cold UK must have been a shock to the system for him!

“We can't wait to see Tommy on a bike as soon as possible and are really looking forward to a
great season.”
