Chris Walker notched up the quickest lap time on a weather-disrupted day of British Superbike testing at Brands Hatch, the series veteran edging out Jakub Smrz for headline-honours.

Riding the Bournemouth Kawasaki, Walker took part in just two of the six sessions over the course of the day, but his lap of 51.410secs was enough to earn him a spot at the top of the timesheets.

Indeed, damp conditions and cold weather limited track time for most riders, with the likes of Alex Lowes and Ryuichi Kiyonari choosing to only make a brief appearance on the Indy circuit, rather than pursue laps.

With conditions at their peak during the fifth session of the day, Walker was less than a tenth faster than Smrz, the Czech rider continuing to impress on the Padgetts Honda as both rider and team strive to secure a deal that will get them on the starting grid this year.

Walker's team-mate Danny Buchan was third fastest, ahead of Kiyonari and Milwaukee Yamaha's James Ellison, while Jenny Tinmouth put in some good mileage as she posted the sixth best lap on the Two Wheel Racing Honda.

In all, 15 riders posted lap times over the course of the day, but there would be no appearance from Rapid Solicitors' Kawasaki, Tyco Suzuki or Buildbase BMW.

The teams will now immediately head to Snetterton for two days of testing around the Norfolk circuit. It is the final group test before the season gets underway at Brands Hatch on April 5-7.
