Byrne 'ready' to commence title defence

'I'd be lying if I said we were 100% ready to go racing but we'll do what we need to in practice at Brands Hatch and we will be ready to race on Sunday' - Shane Byrne
Defending MCE British Superbike champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne says he is ready to reap the benefits of remaining in the same team this season as he targets a record fourth crown.

Byrne returns to action at Brands Hatch this weekend in Paul Bird's Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki outfit, the first time in his career he has stayed with the same team for two consecutive seasons.

And given the lack of meaningful track time during the recent official BSB tests, Byrne – who stole a march on his rivals by participating in a test at Cartagena in Spain – believes that consistency will be more important than ever at the start of the new campaign.

“For the first time ever in my career I've stayed with my team from the year before and this year especially, we have proved the benefit of that consistency given the lack of testing.

“It's my same team, the same bike and even the same sponsors as last year but we could have done with some more testing,” he said.

“I'd be lying if I said we were 100% ready to go racing but we'll do what we need to in practice at Brands Hatch and we will be ready to race on Sunday.

“One thing's for sure, we are much better prepared than some teams and I'm really looking forward to going racing again.”

The 36-year-old has an excellent record at his home circuit at Brands, where he wrapped up his third BSB title in style last year with a stunning treble on the ZX-10R.
