The opening round of the 2013 MCE British Superbike Championship got off to a quiet start with the first free practice session around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit being hampered by damp conditions.
Though not raining, the cool conditions and a track temperature of just three degrees prevented the Kent circuit from drying quickly, prompting just five riders to venture onto the tarmac for a handful of laps.
Busiest amongst them was Jenny Tinmouth on the Two Wheels Racing Honda, who completed nine laps and set the fastest time of 59.109secs – almost 15secs down on the lap record.
She was joined on the circuit by Tommy Bridewell, Josh Waters, James Ellison and Robbin Harms, though each completed mere shakedown laps before returning to the pit lane.
Poor weather has been a theme of the build-up to the 2013 season with the decision to bring pre-season testing onto UK shores undermined by persistently cold and rainy weather.
The second free practice session of the weekend gets underway at 14.45.
