BSB Thruxton 2013: Lowes 'all set' for race day

13 April 2013

Alex Lowes intends to make the most of his pole position start for tomorrow's second round of the MCE British Superbike Championship after final qualifying was cancelled due to heavy rain.

The Samsung Honda rider was left disappointed after the action was aborted on safety grounds by series director Stuart Higgs as result of dangerous standing surface water, although Lowes was in total support of the final decision.

Lowes doesn't feel uneasy over taking the top spot after grid positions for race one were determined by the combined times from free practice, with the Honda rider leading the way in both the dry and wet sessions.

“It is shame that it is not a real pole position after a qualifying session, but I will settle for it as I was fastest here in both the wet and then the dry sessions so I am well set for the races,” he said.

“This is the right decision made in everyone's interests; this circuit is really fast and these conditions made it unsafe.

“I just feel bad for the spectators and marshals who have stood out in the pouring rain.”

Lowes is joined on the front row by class rookie PJ Jacobsen on the Tyco Suzuki, plus Shane Byrne (Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki) and Jacobsen's team-mate, Josh Brookes.

Padgetts Honda's Jakub Smrz heads row two on his debut at the Hampshire track with Michael Rutter (Bathams Honda), Josh Waters (Milwaukee Yamaha) and Chris Walker (Quattro Plant Bournemouth Kawasaki) lining up on the second row.
