Ellison eager to close gap, Waters DVD

"I was disappointed with the first races at Brands Hatch and Thruxton - hopefully that is my bad luck for the season done now!" - James Ellison.
2013 BSB race winner James Ellison is determined to deliver two strong races as he seeks to close the gap to present points leader Shane Byrne at Oulton Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

Ellison has taken two podiums from the opening four races, each of which occurred in race two of the Brands (1st place) and then Thruxton (2nd) rounds.

Bad luck in the other races mean that the former MotoGP rider is only fourth in the standings and 40-points from defending champion Byrne, something Ellison is eager to change this weekend.

“We have had two good podium finishes from the first four races, but at the same time I was disappointed with the first races at Brands Hatch and Thruxton - hopefully that is my bad luck for the season done now!” said Ellison

“Oulton Park has traditionally been a good circuit for the team and it should be a good track for the Yamaha. We had a few laps at Oulton Park too, not as many as we would have liked, but enough to give us some more data so we can start free practice a bit ahead of where we would have been without it.

“We obviously want to close the gap in the points and put Milwaukee Yamaha back on the podium so hopefully we can achieve it at Oulton Park.”

Rookie team-mate and double Australian Superbike champion Josh Waters will be looking to bounce back from his high-speed Thruxton crash, as he makes his race debut at the challenging Oulton Park circuit.

“It has been a few weeks since the last round so I can't wait to get going again this weekend. We have been lucky to do some testing since Thruxton and that included some laps of Oulton Park so at least I can start the weekend knowing where I am going!” he said.

“For me Oulton Park is a great track; the elevation changes are more than you expect them to be after watching last year's round on DVD. Hopefully the tests we have had since the last round means we can be in a better position for this weekend and we can have some good finishes.”

Yebbut ALL the top guys have a good record at Oulton. This could go any of several ways. I'd be no more surprised to see Ellison on the top step than I would for him not to be on the podium at all (tho if he's not on it I'm sure he'll be near it).
