Samsung Honda's Alex Lowes has vowed to 'go for it' as he hunts down his first MCE British Superbike Championship victory of the season at Oulton Park.

Lowes took pole position for race one as he became the only rider to dip into the 1m 34s bracket - the fastest time ever at the Cheshire circuit under the current regulations.

His lap of 1m 34.884s in qualifying put him clear of series leader Shane 'Shakey' Byrne on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki, with Josh Brookes on the Tyco Suzuki GSX-R1000 completing the front row.

Lowes said: "It feels good to be on pole and to be honest I didn't expect to be able to do that time but I will definitely take it.

"You don't get any points today as it is the races that matter but we want that first win; if it is on then I am going for it!

"Our pace feels good and we have been working hard and I will be pushing as hard as I can to try and take that win for Samsung Honda."

Byrne was second throughout each of the qualifying sessions on Sunday and despite setting one of his fastest ever laps at Oulton was unable to topple Lowes.

"It had been a really good session and nobody in this championship likes to stand still; we were three-quarters-of-a-second faster than we were last year so I was happy with that.

"I think it was probably one of the fastest laps I have ever done around this track and then I saw P2 on my board and I thought 'go away' as I couldn't believe it," he added.

"I have my fingers crossed that he can't do those laps throughout the race, but we knew Alex would be fast and we will be doing everything to win as we are not here to finish second."
